2027 Chevrolet Bolt: A Comeback with Significant Upgrades

In 2023, the Chevrolet Bolt and its EUV counterpart were celebrated for their affordability in the burgeoning electric vehicle landscape. Despite their popularity, General Motors temporarily ceased production to prioritize newer, flashier EV models. However, unbeknownst to many, Chevrolet was already hard at work on a successor. The 2027 Bolt re-emerges, bearing a strong resemblance to the former EUV model, yet it is fundamentally transformed underneath. Now assembled in Kansas, this new iteration features updated electrical systems and an innovative electric motor, breathing new life into a beloved nameplate.
One of the most notable upgrades in the 2027 Bolt is its new lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery. While slightly heavier and with a lower energy density than previous versions, the LFP battery offers a more cost-effective manufacturing process and retains the same 65 kWh capacity. Critically, it vastly improves charging capabilities, supporting up to 150 kilowatts. This means a rapid 10 to 80 percent charge can be achieved in just 25 minutes, a nearly threefold improvement. The inclusion of a NACS (Tesla) port further streamlines the charging experience for owners.
Powering the new Bolt is a more compact and efficient motor, borrowed from the Equinox EV. This new motor delivers 210 horsepower, a 10-hp increase over the 2023 model, though torque sees a reduction to 169 lb-ft. To compensate for this, Chevrolet has significantly adjusted the final-drive ratio to 11.6:1, promising quicker acceleration. Initial estimates suggest the 2027 Bolt will reach 60 mph 0.2 seconds faster than its predecessor, with anticipated times in the mid-six-second range.
The 2027 Bolt offers a linear acceleration feel, with a Sport mode that intensifies the driving experience by tightening the steering and enhancing brake-pedal sensitivity. Cornering reveals a well-balanced steering response, with new 17-inch Michelin e.Primacy All Season tires providing excellent grip. The braking system masterfully blends regenerative braking with traditional friction brakes, ensuring a smooth and efficient stop. While the steering-wheel-mounted regen trigger has been removed, a three-mode one-pedal-drive function offers varying levels of regenerative braking, from a gentle "Off" mode that mimics conventional vehicles to an aggressive "High" setting.
Inside, the Bolt's interior has been thoughtfully revamped, offering a more spacious feel. A new dashboard integrates a customizable digital instrument cluster and a larger 11.3-inch infotainment screen, powered by embedded Google software. Although it foregoes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Chevrolet compensates by providing eight years of complimentary map and music streaming data. Despite some lower-grade plastic surfaces and utilitarian seats, the cabin remains highly functional. The 2027 Bolt also offers the optional Super Cruise technology, making it an accessible option for hands-free driving enthusiasts.
With an EPA-rated range of 262 miles and a starting price of $28,995, the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt is remarkably positioned at only $500 more than the 2023 model, and significantly undercuts competitors like the Nissan Leaf. The RS trim, priced at $32,995, adds premium features such as heated and ventilated faux-leather seats and a heated steering wheel. Chevrolet has indicated that the 2027 Bolt will be a "limited-run model," possibly for a single year. While its long-term future remains uncertain, its return is a welcome development, potentially serving as a bridge to future compact EV offerings from the brand. Whether it's a temporary reintroduction or a precursor to something new, the 2027 Bolt is a compelling package that reaffirms Chevrolet's commitment to the electric vehicle market.
Porsche has reiterated its dedication to the electric 718 Boxster and Cayman, dispelling rumors of their cancellation. Despite the initial plan to transition the entire 718 line to electric, the company is now also considering reintroducing gasoline engines for certain variants, indicating a flexible strategy to cater to diverse market demands and maintain performance heritage. An executive lauded the electric models' driving experience as "amazing."

The 2027 Volvo EX60, an electric compact SUV, is set to impress with its advanced electrical architecture and diverse powertrain options. Launching with three distinct variants, it promises varying battery capacities and power outputs, ranging from a 369-horsepower rear-wheel-drive model to a formidable 670-horsepower all-wheel-drive version, showcasing Volvo's commitment to electric mobility.
