Audi is considering venturing into the luxury off-road vehicle market, a segment it has not traditionally focused on. This strategic move, confirmed by CEO Gernot Döllner, reflects a desire to compete with established models like the Mercedes G-Class and Land Rover Defender, but it comes with a critical prerequisite: the availability of an existing body-on-frame platform. Developing a new architecture from scratch would be financially unfeasible, making the utilization of a shared platform within the Volkswagen Group essential for the project's viability.
The concept of an Audi off-roader gained traction with last year's Q6 E-Tron Offroad, though Döllner emphasizes the need for a ladder-frame structure to ensure genuine off-road capabilities. This requirement suggests a potential collaboration with the newly revived Scout Motors, a Volkswagen Group brand poised to launch electric pickup trucks and SUVs on a body-on-frame platform. While an official green light is still pending, this collaboration could see a luxury Audi off-roader emerge around 2030, providing a premium counterpart to Scout's more accessible offerings.
While the prospect of a rugged Audi excites enthusiasts, the company also maintains its focus on conventional SUV expansion. Upcoming models include the three-row Q9, designed to challenge the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS, and a next-generation Q7 slated for 2026. This dual approach highlights Audi's ambition to cater to diverse market demands, from family-oriented SUVs to specialized luxury off-roaders.
Audi's exploration into the luxury off-road segment demonstrates a forward-thinking approach to market diversification and brand heritage. By leveraging existing group resources and prioritizing authentic design, Audi could successfully carve out a niche in a competitive market, further solidifying its reputation for innovation and quality. The integration of advanced engineering with a commitment to environmental responsibility promises a future where luxury and adventure coexist.

Audi's CEO, Gernot Dllner, has officially confirmed that the Concept C electric sports car will enter production within the next two years. Dispelling rumors of cancellation, Dllner emphasized the vehicle's significance as a "serious product" and highlighted ongoing collaboration with Porsche on the platform. This new electric sports car, featuring an electrically folding targa roof, aims to redefine Audi's design language and rejuvenate its brand image, targeting a niche market of performance EV enthusiasts.
