Imagine arriving at a prestigious fashion event, prepared for the usual sartorial display, only to discover your designated seat is already taken—not by another esteemed editor, but by a colossal, plush marine animal. This was the playful reality for attendees at Loewe's recent Fall 2026 show. Guests, including Sarah Pidgeon, Emily Ratajkowski, Sissy Spacek, and Metro Boomin, were greeted by an array of larger-than-life stuffed sculptures rather than their human counterparts.
The masterminds behind Loewe, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, collaborated with the talented Mombasa-born, Cologne-based contemporary artist Cosima von Bonin. Her artistic touch brought forth these magnificent textile creations, which were strategically placed alongside the fashion elite on elevated platforms bordering the runway. This unique artistic intervention blurred the lines between fashion, art, and humor, setting a distinctive tone for the entire event.
Von Bonin's fantastical menagerie included a sophisticated black octopus, a pair of shy clams peeking from their shells, and a majestic Orca. However, the undisputed star of this quirky ensemble was a serene, blue whale, artfully lounging on a bench. Its fortunate human neighbor was actress Hari Nef, who, enchanted by her plush companion, initially christened it “Humberto.”
Hari Nef shared her amusing experience, noting that she felt she had "summoned 'Humberto' out of the ether." Yet, in a charming twist of loyalty to Loewe's Spanish heritage, she later renamed her plush whale "Antonio," a name more prevalent in Andalusia, emphasizing her desire for "authenticity." This interaction perfectly encapsulated the lighthearted and interactive spirit of the show.
The designers revealed in their show notes that von Bonin's artistic endeavors were a core inspiration for their second Loewe collection, a line that clearly embraces humor and a sense of play. Their conversations with the artist led to the concept of these unique artworks not just as decor, but as active participants, "invading the space and sharing their seats as companionable onlookers." It's safe to say, these unconventional seatmates were a welcome and unforgettable addition, enhancing the overall experience for all present.
