Subaru is expanding its popular Wilderness line with the introduction of the 2027 Forester Wilderness Hybrid, marking the brand's first venture into electrified off-road vehicles. Unveiled at the 2026 New York Auto Show, this new model combines the rugged appeal of the Wilderness subbrand with the efficiency of a hybrid powertrain. Designed for adventure enthusiasts, it promises enhanced fuel economy and superior off-road performance, building on the significant success Subaru has seen with its non-hybrid Wilderness models since 2021.
Subaru's commitment to its Wilderness subbrand is evident in the strategic launch of this new hybrid. With nearly 250,000 Wilderness-badged vehicles sold since 2021, and the non-hybrid Forester Wilderness alone accounting for over 13% of Forester sales, the addition of an electrified option is poised to further boost these impressive figures. The 2027 Forester Wilderness Hybrid shares the same robust 9.3 inches of ground clearance as its non-hybrid counterpart, ensuring it maintains the subbrand's reputation for tackling challenging terrains. However, it distinguishes itself with a more fuel-efficient powertrain, offering a compelling choice for environmentally conscious adventurers.
The 2027 Forester Wilderness Hybrid will be available in a single, well-equipped specification. This includes a premium 11-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system, a modern 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, integrated navigation, and a convenient power liftgate. Many of these features are optional extras on the non-hybrid Forester Wilderness, making the hybrid variant a highly attractive package. The SUV's exterior is characterized by distinctive rugged design elements, complemented by matte black 17-inch wheels fitted with all-terrain tires. For added durability and protection during off-road excursions, the vehicle also incorporates additional underbody shielding.
While the hybrid powertrain delivers a slight increase in horsepower and torque compared to the non-hybrid model, initial tests indicate a marginal difference in acceleration, with the hybrid being about 0.3 seconds slower to 60 mph. However, the primary advantage of the hybrid is its expected improvement in fuel economy. Official efficiency ratings are anticipated after further evaluations on real-world driving routes. Subaru has confirmed that the 2027 Forester Wilderness Hybrid is scheduled to arrive in showrooms by the close of 2026, with an estimated starting price of approximately $40,000.
The introduction of the 2027 Forester Wilderness Hybrid underscores Subaru's strategic move to electrify its popular off-road lineup. This new model is designed to attract a broader customer base seeking both adventure and sustainability, further solidifying the Wilderness subbrand's position in the competitive SUV market.
Genesis introduces the 2027 GV70 Prestige Graphite, a performance-oriented trim featuring a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 engine. This new variant showcases a distinctive darkened exterior, red brake calipers, 21-inch dark gray wheels, and a luxurious interior with Ultramarine Blue nappa leather and carbon-fiber accents. It is expected to arrive in showrooms by year-end, with pricing anticipated to exceed $70,000.

Kia introduces the 2027 EV3, a compact electric crossover designed to bring the advanced features and quality of its larger EV siblings (EV6 and EV9) to a smaller, more accessible package. Previously available in Europe and Asia, the EV3 offers a maximum driving range of 320 miles and a range of power options, including a 288 hp GT variant. This new model aims to cater to a broader market by combining cutting-edge technology, spacious interior design, and competitive pricing, challenging other automakers' scaling back of EV initiatives.
