A recent announcement from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) indicates a major recall involving over 200,000 camping stoves distributed nationwide. These specific stoves pose significant dangers including fire, burn injuries, and explosions. The affected products, sold primarily through Walmart stores and their online platform, have been linked to multiple incidents resulting in serious harm to consumers. Authorities are urging immediate cessation of use for these potentially hazardous items.
The recall targets the Ozark Trail Tabletop 1-Burner Butane Camping Stoves, identifiable by the model number “BG2247A1” printed directly on the unit. These stoves were available for purchase at Walmart retail locations and through Walmart.com from March 2023 until October 2025, with prices ranging from $8 to $45. This broad distribution means a considerable number of these devices are currently in public hands, prompting widespread concern for safety.
According to the CPSC, the company has received 26 distinct reports of these camping stoves malfunctioning, either by igniting or exploding. Tragically, these incidents have led to 16 documented cases of injuries, some as severe as second-degree burns. This alarming number highlights the urgent need for consumers to comply with the recall notice.
Individuals who own one of these recalled Ozark Trail camping stoves are strongly advised to cease using it at once. The recommended course of action is to return the stove to any Walmart store for a complete reimbursement. It is important to note that this recall exclusively pertains to the specified model of Ozark Trail camping stoves, and no other products from the Ozark Trail line are currently implicated in this safety alert. For further inquiries or assistance regarding the recall, customers can contact Walmart during their operational hours.
This safety measure is critical to prevent further harm. The high number of reported incidents, including serious burn injuries, underscores the inherent risks associated with these stoves. By returning the product, consumers can ensure their safety and contribute to the effective removal of these hazardous items from circulation. Walmart is committed to addressing this issue promptly and ensuring customer safety.
